For the first time, student artwork is featured on hundreds of Monkeyshines, Tacoma’s beloved community art project celebrating the Lunar New Year.
As part of a design contest, students from across Tacoma Public Schools created original stamp designs for the crafting of Monkeyshines. The winning designs were transformed into metal stamps and used by students in the Hilltop Heritage Middle School and Silas High School glass shops to create this year’s glass floats and medallions. The winning students were also invited to help hide this year’s Monkeyshines around Tacoma.
The contest was imagined and implemented by Jason Mouer, Career and Technical Education Glass Arts teacher at Hilltop Heritage.
Congratulations to the Year of the Snake winners!
