Tacoma Public Schools continues to set the standard in girls flag football, with four teams advancing to the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) state tournament.

In 3A, Lincoln High School earned the first West Central District Championship in flag football. Lincoln advances to state as the number one seed and will host a regional round at Lincoln Bowl Saturday, Feb. 7.

Also advancing to state in 3A are Mt. Tahoma and Silas high schools, giving Tacoma three representatives in the 3A state field.

In 4A, Stadium High School was defeated in a closely contested West Central District semifinal against Sumner. Despite the loss, Stadium earned the number four seed to the state tournament and will host a regional game Saturday, Feb. 7, at Stadium Bowl.

This season carries added significance as it marks the first year girls’ flag football is recognized as an official interscholastic sport by the WIAA.

The West Central District Bowling Tournament was held last weekend, with strong individual performances from Tacoma athletes. Nora Friz and Naveah Woods at Mount Tahoma and Eislyn Douthit at Silas High School will all advance to the WIAA state bowling tournament.
