Congratulations to our spring sports student-athletes, many who advanced to state competition and came home with team and individual medals.
Track and field
The 2026 WIAA 2A, 3A & 4A State Track and Field Championships wrapped up over the weekend, and Tacoma Public Schools was represented by multiple state champs and some team hardware.
Lincoln High School
Lincoln's boys delivered one of the top performances in the state, which earned them a 3rd place team trophy.
Senior Eddie Bruner Jr. captured his second 3A state championship in the 400 meters with a personal-best time of 46.62.
Senior JoMierre Askew-Poirier earned state runner-up finishes in both the 100 meters and 200 meters, placing second in each event.
Lincoln's sprint dominance continued in the relays. The 4x100 relay team of Immanuel Jordan, Bruner, Kasey Williams, and Ramon Jones captured the 3A state championship with a winning time of 41.86. The Abes also earned a 3rd-place finish in the 4x400 relay behind Willie Long Jr., Askew-Poirier, Jones and Williams.
Jones added two all-state finishes, placing 8th in both the 100 meters and 400 meters.
On the girls' side, senior Alana Alejo-Dumanal earned a 5th-place finish in the 400 meters with a personal-best 56.47. Jordan Fualaau earned all-state honors with a 6th-place finish in the shot put.
Silas High School
Silas girls showed up again and took home a 3rd place trophy!
Junior Savannah Hinton was one of the stars of the entire championship meet, capturing two individual state titles. Hinton won the 100-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles, posting the fastest times in both preliminaries and finals. Her winning performance in the 300 hurdles was a personal-best 41.73 and a new meet record!
Junior Eva Carlson added another podium finish for the Rams, placing 3rd in the 100 meters after entering the finals as the top qualifier with a personal-best 11.99.
The Silas girls' relay teams also excelled. The 4x200 relay team of Carlson, Kalayah Marcheselli, Carmya Barnes, and Hinton earned 2nd place, while the same group finished 4th in the 4x100 relay.
On the boys' side, sophomore Cannon Howard emerged as one of the state's brightest young sprinters, earning a 3rd-place finish in the 100 meters. The Rams' 4x100 relay team of Oliver Buchanan, Cannon Howard, Riley Foster, and Christopher Trevino finished 2nd in the state.
Mount Tahoma High School
Junior Ania Samya Condry established herself among the state's elite sprinters, earning a state runner-up finish in the 100 meters and a 3rd-place finish in the 200 meters.
On the boys' side, senior Zion Norman earned state runner-up honors in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 22 feet, 5.75 inches. Junior Xavier Harris added another podium finish, placing 4th in the triple jump with a personal-best mark of 44 feet, 7 inches.
Senior Michael O Akinmuyisitan delivered a strong performance in the 300-meter hurdles, earning 4th place in the state with a personal-best time of 39.05. Fellow senior Naseem Purnell-Bishop earned all-state honors in the 110-meter hurdles, placing 7th.
The Thunderbirds were also represented in the Unified shot put competition, where James Carcione earned a 6th-place finish with a personal-best throw of 32 feet, 0.75 inches, while Logan Frank placed 7th with a personal-best mark of 30 feet, 11.25 inches.
Stadium High School
The Tigers' boys distance program shined in the 800 meters, with juniors Michael Bulldis and Jonah Neidlinger both earning podium finishes. Bulldis placed 7th with a personal-best 1:55.01, while Neidlinger finished 8th with a personal-best 1:55.56.
On the girls' side, sophomore La'vaya Battle earned all-state honors with a 4th-place finish in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 4 inches.
Foss High School
Senior Ty'Reke Johnson capped off his Foss career with a 7th-place finish in the triple jump, earning a place on the podium with a jump of 42 feet, 3 inches.
On the girls side, junior Ja'kayre Stewart earned all-state recognition in the high jump, placing 7th after clearing 5 feet, 2 inches.
Congratulations to all student-athletes, coaches, families, and supporters on an exceptional season. Your hard work, perseverance, and commitment to excellence made Tacoma proud.
Boys tennis and soccer
Becker Templin of Stadium High School advanced into the boys 4A singles tennis tournament to earn a 3rd place finish.
Silas boys defeated Edmonds Woodway to advance to the quarter finals, where they lost 3-2 against Bishop-Blanchet.
Stadium played in the quarterfinals of the 4A WIAA State Championships vs. Sumner and lost 3-0.
Congrats to both boys’ teams on a solid performance this year.
