Silas High School—Principal’s Weekly Message—June, 1, 2025—
13.5 days of school remaining.
Silas Core Beliefs
Every student can learn and grow at high levels.
Every student brings valuable prior knowledge to school.
Every student shall have a trusted adult at school with whom they connect.
Every student shall have access to guaranteed and viable curriculum.
Every student shall leave Silas High School prepared for post-secondary options.
The June Equity Theme centers around: Advocacy
We can have fidelity, or loyalty, to an institution, system, or process and still advocate for those who are marginalized by those very things. We may feel or hear others say, “I am loyal to the cause,” but we can also have loyalty to the very system or process we are criticizing. For me, this is true of both our country and our public school system. I value both and am proud to be a product of both. Still, I believe there is MUCH to improve in both. I became an educator to advocate for students and staff from within the system. That’s why I am never afraid to have tough conversations about how we can be better. How do you advocate? And for whom?

Senior Course Completion
Seniors and senior families,
Senior checkout forms are distributed to students on June 10. At that time, if a senior is failing a course, counselors will provide credit retrieval options. That will give seniors a week to demonstrate they do, in fact, know the material.
Seniors—know what’s better? PASS YOUR CLASSES!
Free summer meals for kids
The Parks Tacoma Summer Meal Program provides free lunch to all youth age 18 and younger over the summer, from June 23 to Aug. 28.
