A much shorter and earlier edition this week as we transition from Winter Sports to Spring Sports.

The Winter sports season is now officially over. Unified Basketball was the last sports team still in action this past weekend playing in the Unified State Basketball Championships in Wenatchee. Some excitement to share about their efforts.

The Spring Sports Season began on Monday (3/3/25). Spring Sports includes Baseball, Fastpitch, Boys and Girls Golf, Boys Soccer, Girls Tennis, Boys and Girls Track & Field, and Girls Water Polo. You’ll find their respective upcoming schedules at the end of this edition.

Basketball – Unified:

State of Washington Special Olympics - Winter Games

As mentioned, our Unified Basketball team traveled to Wenatchee (2/28/25 – 3/2/25) to represent Silas in 2025 Unified State Basketball Championships. The big news is that our Rams are Unified State Basketball Champions!!

Our Rams entered the tournament playing in Division I, the highest division in Unified Basketball. Four teams qualified for State in Division I. Our Rams first game was against the Kamiak Knights. Our Rams knocked off the Knights 37 to 25. Here is Coach Arneberg with the details:

Our first opponent was Kamiak High School. Final score was Silas 37, Kamiak 25. Riley Hoiland was our leading scorer with 13 points, he was tearing up the 3-point line!  Riley also had 6 amazing rebounds!  Our second highest scorer in that game was Isiah Nichols-Hanson with 6 points off the offensive boards!  

With the win, Silas advanced to the championship game against the Roosevelt Roughriders. Our Rams captured the State Championship by beating the Roughriders 36 to 23. Here’s more from Coach Arneberg:

Our second game was against a very tall Roosevelt High School. Final score was Silas 36, Roosevelt 23. This was a hard-fought game, with our Rams beating them with blistering speed, steals, and fast breaks. Shout out to Roosevelt Fareed that had the hot hand with three 3-pointers and 6 steals. Our partner and vertical jump champion Riley Emmett scored 18 points and ripped the boards with 14 rebounds. One of the highlights was Andrew Mayer with his is reverse lay in in the final minute that brough the crowd to their feet.

Congratulations to Coaches Micah Arneberg and Kathy Woodard, and players Andrew Mayer, Riley Emmett, Morgan Stevens, Henry Stiles, Roosevelt Fareed, Isiah Nichols-Hanson, Riley Howard, and Mia Kuartel for a great season!
